A Free Beginner Crochet Pattern: Mini Round Face Scrubby
If you've been looking for a small, satisfying crochet project that you'll actually use every single day, this is it.
The Mini Round Face Scrubby is one of my favourite beginner-friendly makes - quick to finish, practical, and a really lovely swap for disposable cotton rounds. Worsted cotton, a 5mm hook, and you'll have a finished scrubby in under an hour.
Why Face Scrubbies Are Such a Great First Project
When you're newer to crochet, it can be hard to find patterns that don't feel either too simple or too overwhelming. Face scrubbies hit a really nice middle ground.
They're small enough to finish in one sitting, which means you actually get to feel that satisfying "I made this" moment pretty quickly. And because you're working in the round, they're a gentle introduction to a technique you'll use over and over again in future projects.
They also happen to be genuinely useful. Soft enough for daily skincare, washable, and reusable - it's one of those makes that quietly replaces something disposable without you having to think too hard about it.

What You'll Need
Yarn: Worsted weight cotton (I used white, but any colour works beautifully)
Hook: 5mm crochet hook
Other: Scissors, stitch marker, tapestry needle to weave in ends
Time: Under an hour
That's really it. No special materials, no complicated tools. Just yarn, a hook, and a little bit of time.
About the Free Pattern
The free pattern I'm sharing is the Mini Round Face Scrubby - the smaller size from my Crochet Scrubby Set.
It uses basic stitches and is written with clear, easy-to-follow instructions so you won't feel lost halfway through. If you can work a magic ring and single crochet, you've got everything you need.
The full Crochet Scrubby Set - which includes the larger scrubby, a face cloth, and a dish scrubby - is available on Etsy if you want to make the whole collection. But the mini scrubby is a perfect standalone project on its own.

It's a quick, satisfying make - and honestly, once you make one, you'll want to make a whole set.
A Few Tips Before You Start
Cotton yarn works best for face scrubbies because it's absorbent, gentle on skin, and holds up well in the wash. I recommend a simple worsted weight cotton - nothing too textured.
Gauge doesn't need to be perfect for this project. A small size difference won't matter since these are for personal use.
They're great for gifting. A little set of scrubbies tied together with twine makes such a sweet, thoughtful handmade gift.
